Fell in love while treking, tied nupitals at tallest peak of Maharashtra
MUMBAI: They trekked together, fell in love, proposed and got married – that too in a unique way. They chose to marry at Mt Kalsubai, the tallest peak of the Sahyadri range of Maharashtra.
The couple – Vivek Patil and Swapnali Dhabugade – wanted different and decided to marry at 1,646-metre tall,  Mt Kalsubai – that is spread between Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district and Akole taluka of Ahmednagar distict. The marriage was performed in a traditional Maharashtrian manner over Saturday and Sunday.
The marriage was different from all accounts – not only the bride and bridegroom, their parents and relatives, friends and invitees trekked their way up to the pinaccle where the ceremony were performed.
Part of a group known as TrekLovers,  Thane resident Vivek Patil, an engineer with Larsen & Toubro, Powai and Swapnali Dhabugade, a cost accountant with Social Axis, Khar, had been part of nearly two dozen treks – before they took a final call to tie nupital knots.
“We were very excited and thrilled…we wanted it differently, it happened differently and people appreciated it,” Patil told Deccan Herald, on Monday morning.
From Bari, a village, which is like  a base camp for trekkers to Mt Kalsubai, they started at around 3 pm on Saturday and reached the top after nearly three-and-a-half hours.  The evening revelry comprised of ‘haldi’ ceremony, ‘sangeet’, music and later some rest. “The dinner comprised of ‘khichadi’,” he said, adding that some tents were organised so that the guests can beat the cold.  The marriage ceremony started at 6 am on Sunday morning and at 9.30 pm they started the descent.  “When we reached back, there was lunch for guests,” he said, adding that their guest list comprised of 150 persons, but many other well-wishers joined the celebrations.
