Device to prevent train collisions

MUMBAI, Oct 16 /1999(UNI) —

In a revolutionary breakthrough which promises to change the safety scenario in the Railways in the whole world, the Konkan Railway has developed an innovative device which will prevent collision of trains.

According to Konkan Railway Managing Director B. Rajaram, the device,
called as the anti-collision device (ACD), will prevent “Khanna’’ and “Ghaisal’’ kinds of railway accidents in future and render railway travel safer.

The first laboratory prototype of the device has been made ready by the Konkan Railway within a record 40 days of the launching of the project.

Now houseboats and boathouses in Tarkarli MUMBAI: In a bid to boost tourism in the scenic coastal Konkan coast, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has introduced two houseboats and a boathouse in Tarkarli in Malvan. "The response from tourists have been very good, and we are encouraged with it," says Abhay Yawalkar, MTDC's Joint Managing Director and Director of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra. One more boathouse will be introduced soon. While the two houseboats – Hiranyakeshi and Karli – are operational for some time now, the boathouse made of bamboo locally, was introduced this month. The two houseboats have been procured from Kerala. At the same time, while snorkeling has been launched in Tarkarli, the MTDC will launch skuba diving shortly. For introduction of skuba diving, the help of marine bilogist Sarang Kulkarni is being taken, said Yawalkar. US sniper attacks revives memories of Raman Raghav and ‘stone man’ MUMBAI, Oct 29/2002: The sniper attacks in the Washington DC area in the US have revived the memories of a dreaded serial killer of this Island city, Raman Raghav and another infamous "stone man".
