Ganpatidham coming up near Panvel

MUMBAI: A unique project – called Ganpatidham – which have a collection of Ganpati idols including rare ones and books and literature of the elephant-headed-Lord is coming up near the old Mumbai-Pune highway at Panvel.

The project, which is a brainchild of a retired police officer, Joginder Singh Kahaan and his son Paramjeet Singh Kahaan, has been divided in six phases and the first phase is expected to be ready by 2008. "The physical construction would start by November this year," Kahaan told the Herald yesterday.

The project has been named International Ganpatidham and Research Centre and is located Wavandhal village in Khalapur in the coastal Raigad district, Kahaan said and added that he himself has been collecting idols of Lord Ganpati since the last 16 years.

Kahaan, who heads the Guardian Facilities Management Private Limited, however, refused to divulge the cost of the project, but said that negotiations with financial institutions are on. " I am proud that Lord Ganesha has selected me for his service and I am proud of my team who is extending all there efforts to make this project successful because of bless by Lord Ganesha to do this service. The subject is so much interesting any one listen a single word of Ganpatidham , he gets attracted towards the Ganpatidham & offers his services without any delay," he said.

The centre would incorporate all 32 forms of Lord Ganesha from 'Tatvanidhi Grantha' and 'Ganeshpurana'. Nearly 42 forms of Lord Ganesha from other parts of the world would also be on display here. Apart from that, 54-year-old Kahaan has plans to start a 'Vedshala', meditation centre , old-age home and a research centre for youths willing to perform research on Ganapati. Twenty-one forms of Vinayaki (Ganesha in female forms from 1 st century onwards would also be on display) and so as forms of Asthavinayak and Lord Ganesha Parivar with Riddhi, Buddhi, Kashem & Labh , the rare profile.


Besdies this, the complex, which would be in Ganesha form, would also have a meditation hall, coins and stamps depicting Ganesha and also an artistic gallery. The library would have more than 6,000 books. Boarding and lodging facilities for students would also be made in a phased manner, he said. The project is located in a scenic location on a table top land and one side touching to the river, motarable main road spread across total 11 acres of land. "This would be the first-of-its-kind of project in the world," he said and added that he had traveled lakhs of kilometers in different part of the country, even to the interiors in search of idols of Lord Ganesha since 1990.

The International Ganpatidham and Research Centre would be constructed by the special village science technology and safety of people has been given utmost importance.
